Kelly Ripa has been telling stories on her morning show for more than 20 years. Now she’s sharing more of those stories with us in her debut book Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories.
She covers a lot of ground in her essays, revealing personal details about her career, her husband and their life together with three kids after a 20-year marriage. She also tackles issues that don’t typically appear on her show, such as workplace negotiation and workplace chauvinism.
Introduction
This book is a veritable brew of entertaining reads and a few hiccups. The best part? I can’t wait to see what’s in store for me and the kids. Having the opportunity to talk with the author of this impressive volume is one of my favorite things to do in life, and I am proud to have found such a worthy literary companion. Thank you! We can’t wait to share our mutual love of reading, savoring a glass of wine with a friend and figuring out the next big thing in the kitchen. Until then, I wish you the best in this life and the next.
Don’t Let Your Husband Pick Your Death Clothes
In her new book, Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories, the daytime talk show host Kelly Ripa revealed that she once passed out while having sex with her husband Mark Consuelos. It happened in 1997, a year after they were married and six months after they welcomed their first child, Michael. She later found out that the cause of her blackout was a developing pair of ovarian cysts.
Women who have ovarian cysts usually don’t experience any problems with them, but sometimes they can rupture and cause painful swelling and bleeding, according to the Mayo Clinic. That’s why it’s so important to know your gynecologist and have regular pelvic exams.
While this is a story that should be kept between the sheets, there’s an amusing twist to it. As shared by Haute Living, Ripa reveals in her upcoming memoir that she “woke up in a hospital dressed like a 1980s French-cut leotard and red ‘fuck me’ Manolo Blahniks” when she passed out.
The 51-year-old TV star shared the story with her fans in the chapter titled “Don’t Let Your Husband Pick Your Death Clothes.” But while it might seem like this episode has got to be embarrassing, there’s actually an astonishingly entertaining explanation for why this NSFW moment made it into Ripa’s book.
Her husband Mark, who is also an actor, has a pretty cool sense of humor and doesn’t take any crap from his wife, so this chapter really shouldn’t come as much of a shock. He’s a man who values his family and is willing to give up some of his fame for them, which is why you should always appreciate him. So next time you’re having a bad day, remember to thank your husband for all that he does.
You Can’t Die Embarrassingly
Kelly Ripa’s debut book, Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories, is a compendium of 14 essays, each a must-read for its own reason. But one story has been getting a lot of press—for the wrong reasons. In the Live Wire book, Ripa reveals how she managed to get ahead in a male-dominated industry while raising a family with her husband of 26 years and three children. The book also features the best of Ripa’s wit and wisdom, from workplace negotiations to her newest role as an empty-nest parent. The most entertaining part is her unabashed willingness to share — and laugh at — herself.
You’re Not the Only One
In a time of mass-produced, overly sappy romantic music videos – and the rise of the TikTok phenomenon – Sam Smith’s hit single “I’m Not The Only One” is the perfect antidote. Its piano-soul ballad is anchored by orchestral strings and a gospel structure, and carries themes of jilted lovers and a scorned wife. It’s a heart-felt piece that has become an unofficial anthem for the jilted generation. It was filmed in 2014 and features Glee’s Dianna Agron as a scorned bride and The Mindy Project’s Chris Messina as her husband who she wants to leave behind.
In this groundbreaking book, David Eagleman takes us deep into the brain to explore the amazingly dynamic nature of the human brain and how it changes constantly. From synaesthesia to dreaming and wearable devices that are revolutionizing the senses, Eagleman reveals how we have built an electric, living brain – and how it’s changed our lives for the better. Brilliantly engaging and accessible, Live Wire is a must-read for anyone interested in the extraordinary powers of the human mind.
I Don’t Know How to Say Goodbye
When you lose a loved one, it can be hard to know how to say goodbye. The pain doesn’t go away, and sometimes it can feel as though you’re being ripped apart from the ones you love. You might even find yourself growing distant to them.
In those cases, it can help to have a song that will soothe the pain and make you remember how lucky you are to have them by your side. If you’re having a difficult time with letting someone go, Lewis Capaldi’s “Before You Go” could be just what you need. It’s got all the right elements to make this a heart-wrenching farewell: defiant spirit, smashing drum crashes and a catchy sing-along chorus.
If you’re looking for something a little more modern, Swedish DJ and producer Avicii has a knack for melody. With this pop fresh and electronic tune, he’s made a goodbye song that will put a strong wind at your back. You can listen to it here. It’s an awesome way to end this chapter of your life with your head held high.
