What Books Should I Read?
You’ve decided to get into reading, but you’re wondering what books to read. Here are six that I recommend. Whether you’re looking for fiction, non-fiction, or something in the middle, there’s a book for you.
Alice in Wonderland
Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland is a classic story, albeit one with a rather dubious origin. It is the story of a girl named Alice who falls through a rabbit hole. She comes to find a world full of strange anthropomorphic creatures.
As she wanders through the land of whimsy, she meets the Mad Hatter, the Red Queen, the Cheshire Cat, and Jack of Diamonds. She also encounters a variety of other unusual characters.
While Alice is a relatively minor character in this story, she is nevertheless a key player. Her story has been adapted into several movies, radio shows, and board games.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, written by Mark Twain, is a classic American novel. It takes place in the South during the pre-Civil War era.
In the book, the protagonist, Huckleberry “Huck” Finn, is a runaway slave. He is accompanied by Jim, another runaway slave, on his way to freedom. Their story is about the conflicts between civilization and freedom.
Huck lives in an antebellum South where the community favors slavery. His father is a drunk, and he is frequently homeless.
The Fault in Our Stars
If you’re looking for a tear-jerking, feel-good love story, look no further than The Fault in Our Stars. This novel by John Green tells the tale of two teenagers who meet at a cancer support group and fall in love. They are both suffering from cancer, but thankfully they find each other’s support.
Although The Fault in Our Stars is a young adult novel, it’s not the first to show teenagers with illnesses pursuing their interests. In fact, the story is very similar to a number of novels. Some examples include A Time to Die, A Million Little Things, Too Young to Die, and Judy Blume’s Deenie.
Think and Grow Rich
Napoleon Hill wrote the Think and Grow Rich book which is one of the most successful motivational and self-help books of all time. The author spent two decades researching and interviewing hundreds of successful businessmen, and was rewarded with an assignment to compile his findings into a masterwork.
The book focuses on several key aspects of the success equation. First, it teaches readers how to think. Second, it provides a blueprint for success. And third, it explains the concept of financial management.
Notes From a Small Island by Bill Bryson
The Notes from a Small Island by Bill Bryson is a fun read that you’ll enjoy for sure. While some may find the author’s opinions on frugality annoying, he makes the most of it and the end result is a fun trip down memory lane.
The book is a mix of musings on twenty years in the British Isles and more recent adventures. There’s also a touch of nostalgia and a fair bit of cynicism. One of the most memorable parts of the book is the tale of how a British-American couple met while working at a sanatorium outside of London.
Charlotte’s Web by Mary Shelley
Charlotte’s Web is an adorable story about a little pig named Wilbur and his friends. The story is full of adventure and drama. It deals with death and life lessons.
The first chapter begins with a question about murder. But then, strange messages begin to appear in the web. After that, the story jumps into the lives of the three children of Charlotte.
Then, we meet a woman named Fern who helps Charlotte with her job. She also helps save Wilbur from slaughter. In the end, she realizes that she can make a difference in the world.
The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg
The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg is a book well worth checking out. The New York Times scribe has a knack for distilling vast amounts of information into digestible form. He’s also a proud winner of several awards. If you’re on the market for a book, this is the title to put on your wish list. Whether you’re a student of kinesiology or an avid reader of the paperback, you’ll be rewarded.
In short, the Power of Habit teaches you how to improve your own life. The author outlines a plan of action in a manner that is easy to implement and surprisingly enjoyable to read.
The Hobbit is a book that will enchant anyone. It’s full of adventure and mythology. It’s been translated into over 50 languages and is the best-selling fantasy book of the twentieth century. Tolkien has sold more than 600 million copies of his books.
In fact, Tolkien wrote several other fantasy novels as well. He also wrote an epic fantasy series known as The Lord of the Rings.
The trilogy is recommended for adult readers and is packed with adventure, magic, humor, and romance. There are also real-world allegories. Several of the books in the trilogy can be confusing. This means that a good reading order is important.
